Symmetry and Reflection

Symmetry means one half is a mirror image of the other half. If you fold a shape along its line of symmetry, both halves match perfectly!

Some shapes have lots of lines of symmetry. A circle has infinite lines of symmetry! A square has 4.

Butterflies, snowflakes, and even your face have approximate symmetry.

Reflection symmetry is when you flip a shape over a line (like looking in a mirror). The shape stays the same size but gets reversed.

💡 Examples

Square:4 lines of symmetry (horizontal, vertical, 2 diagonal)
Equilateral triangle:3 lines of symmetry
Letter A:1 line of symmetry (vertical)
